Consultant Pain Medicine
This post will facilitate the provision of care to chronic pain patients and also offers the opportunity of provision of anaesthetic services for elective and emergency patients which would include an on-call commitment on a 1 in 11 basis (approximately 1.3PA’s per week). The elective work split will be approximately 2.5 sessions of direct clinical care within anaesthetics and 6.00 sessions for pain management which will include outpatient clinics, pain theatre work and administration time. The job plan includes 1.25 SPA. If the option of anaesthetic sessions is not required there will be increased clinical input to the pain service.
Clinical experience and training equivalent to Advanced Specialist Training in Pain Medicine is essential for this post and it would be desirable to be a Fellow of Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FFPMRCA).
You will be a currently practicing clinician, holding GMC registration with a license to practice. They will have attained FRCA or equivalent, and be included on the GMC’s Specialist Register in Anaesthetics.
A commitment to a bio-psychosocial approach to pain management, multi-professional working, evidence-based practice and the principles of shared care and close working with other disciplines and specialties are also essential elements of this role.
The post is responsible to the Clinical Lead for Chronic Pain Medicine, and supported by the Business Manager for the Integrated MSK, Pain and Rheumatology Service (IMPReS). Any anaesthetic components of the post will be responsible to the Clinical Director for Anaesthetics.
