Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Paediatric Neurology based within the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales on the University Hospital of Wales site in Cardiff.

This is a 7-session post providing 5 sessions of neurorehabilitation and 2 sessions of general neurology with outreach commitment at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend.

You will be part of a team providing 24-hour acute neurology advice to the South Wales area and cover for in-patients at the Children’s Hospital.  You will be supported by 2.3 WTE colleagues with interests in general neurology, epilepsy, and neuromuscular disorders.

The Paediatric Neurosciences service in Cardiff is the designated regional centre for South and Mid Wales, providing in-patient care for all acute paediatric neurosurgery and neurology patients in South Wales (population approximately 2 million) and tertiary outpatient care for children in South East Wales and Powys.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for delivering a neurorehabilitation service to children in South East Wales and South Powys.

Support is provided by a comprehensive multidisciplinary team comprising neuropsychology, physiotherapy, dietetics, speech & language, occupational therapy, rehabilitation assistants, and a 0.5 WTE Team Manager.

The service not only provides care for patients with new brain injuries but has allowed for those patients who have previously suffered an acquired brain injury to be followed up and managed for emerging clinical problems in a monthly Consultant led clinic.

Referrals to the service are appropriately managed ensuring they meet the criteria for referral and receive appropriate care.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
