Consultant Anaesthetist (Intensive Care Medicine)
Applicants will have full registration with the GMC, and FRCA (UK or Ireland) or equivalent inclusion on the Specialist Register/or admission within six months of the interview date. The post will be based at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan, with sessional commitments there, Leigh Infirmary or Wrightington Hospital.
The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary (Wigan Infirmary), provides in-patient acute beds for Medicine, Paediatrics, ENT, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Trauma, Pelvic Trauma, Breast Surgery and Urology. In addition, the Obstetric Unit is based here and there is an Accident and Emergency Department which also functions as a Trauma Unit.
Wrightington Hospital is where most of the elective Orthopaedic Surgery is performed, as well as accommodating the Rheumatology service.
Leigh Infirmary functions as a Day Case Unit and a Diagnostic and Treatment Centre – The Hanover.
The Critical Care Unit consists of 11 beds, nominally 7 ICU and 4 HDU beds. We are part of the Greater Manchester Network of Critical Care Units and have an active teaching program for trainees in Anaesthesia and ACCS.
The Trust has excellent postgraduate and research facilities, with a newly opened Postgraduate & Skills Centre.
