We are looking for an ambitious and inspirational Medical Director to work with the Board and Executive Team to continue the clinical and service transformation journey the Health Board has begun, provide leadership to a team of 1,400 doctors, advance clinical excellence and develop clinical research.

ABMU Health Board is one of the largest providers of integrated health care in the UK with approximately 16,000 staff and a budget of around £1.3 billion and is located in one of the UK's most naturally beautiful regions with superb beaches and countryside to enjoy.

As a health board in Wales we are ambitious for the communities we serve and determined to uphold the fundamental values of the NHS. We deliver tertiary, acute, mental health, community and primary care services.

We are research driven, working in close partnership with Swansea University, its college of medicine and the Institute of Life Sciences. As Medical Director, you will work alongside 575 consultants, many of whom have key research roles, along with 150 non-training grade medics and 550 GPs.

The Job

As an Executive Director you will provide strong leadership and guidance to the Board across a range of key areas including clinical governance and performance, medical education and research and development. We are passionate about delivering excellence in clinical services and taking early action to promote and protect health and independence in our communities. Our ARCH programme is transforming clinical models and developing and implementing a sustainable long term clinical and service strategy and you will have a commitment to working with our G.Ps to provide seamless models of care.

You will work in partnership with clinical leaders to drive improvements in health outcomes and reduce health inequalities across our communities and you will support clinical system leadership across the health board.

The Person

You will have an impressive track record as a clinical leader with the personal credibility and interpersonal skills to lead and deliver in a politically sensitive and demanding role within an organisation undertaking a transformational change programme supporting the delivery of our Clinical Strategy.

You will be a progressive, ambitious individual with a record of delivery and establishing effective and constructive relationships across all sectors. You will be comfortable working at board level and able to inspire our clinical community.

The Place

There are so many ways to enjoy the fantastic natural environment including water sports, golf, walking, cycling and mountain biking. The area also has a strong cultural history and was home to many famous composers, poets, writers, and artists and there are a wide range of museums, galleries, theatres and music venues. There is a strong sporting heritage including Championship Football-(Swansea City AFC) at the Liberty Stadium, professional Rugby (The Ospreys) and cricket.
