The Trust was rated as ‘Good’ by the CQC from its October 2014 full inspection, has a good reputation for research and benefits from some of the very latest clinical facilities; these include Critical Care, neonatal intensive care, a new suite of state-of the-art theatres and a dedicated day case Treatment Centre. The Trust has invested significantly in recent years in clinical expansion and hospital mortality is ‘as expected’ across the range of indicators. 

Applications are invited for a Consultant Breast Radiologist at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join a team of 11 Consultants in the Radiology department based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. This is a replacement post and will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to pursue either a sole breast imaging career or to combine this discipline with other imaging interests. 

The breast service is an integral part of the Imaging Department and provides screening services within the NHSBSP alongside a local symptomatic provision. The standalone unit has new digital Siemens Mammographic equipment and Toshiba Ultrasound. MR breast imaging is provided locally using our newly installed MR scanners. 

Expertise in areas outside breast imaging will be encouraged as there is a wide spectrum of opportunities to participate in other sub-specialties if desired. The department is equipped with two GE cardiac enabled CT scanners (Lightspeed VCTXTE and Optima 660) and has recently installed two Siemens Aera 1.5T cardiac MRI scanners. There is one Siemens Artis Zee interventional suite, 11 Toshiba US machines, 1 DEXA scanner and 2 Siemens digital mammography units. The department has undergone a major refurbishment as part of the equipment replacement scheme and has also invested in 4 replacement DR General rooms. A business case has been approved for a 3rd MRI scanner and for a 3rd CT scanner. 

The role of the advanced practitioner has been expanded with Radiographers and Sonographers independently reporting a wide range of examinations. The Breast Unit has advanced practitioners reporting screening mammography. One of the advanced practitioners is trained in stereotactic biopsies. There will be opportunities to advance this further in the future. 

A Soliton RIS system with Speech Magic voice recognition was installed in September2015 and this was followed by Order Comms this year, with a view to becoming a paperless department. A new Care stream PACS system with an integral home reporting solution has very recently been installed. 

The Trust’s new recruitment premium means that individuals choosing to come and work at MCHFT in the role of Consultant Radiologist will benefit from an additional£22,800 on appointment, in addition to their basic salary, with an additional£22,800 paid at the completion of four years’ service. The premiums are in addition to relocation packages of up to £8,000 being offered by the Trust to successful candidates.
