Orthopaedic Anaesthesia and Peri-Operative Medicine
We are looking for Consultants in Anaesthesia with a broad range of skills to become active members of a flexible team, at a particularly exciting time for anaesthetic expansion and peri-operative medicine development in Cornwall.
Particular experience in pre-assessment and peri-operative medicine and expertise or desire to develop CPET and/or peri-operative echocardiography as well as orthopaedic and regional anaesthesia, would be most attractive. Wider skills in audit and governance, and management and leadership would be particularly desirable.
Our on-call commitment has evolved to provide the highest quality consultant delivered service. 1 in 24 non-resident on call. You will join a team of 40 consultant anaesthetists and 6 SAS anaesthetists.
The Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust is investing in St Michael’s Hospital to build on the already excellent patient outcomes to provide a venue for all elective orthopaedic surgery patients in Cornwall.
The Cornwall Orthopaedic Centre @ St Michael’s Hospital is twenty minutes away from the main Hospital site in Truro where the emergency trauma service is situated. .
Successful applicants will be based at and integral to the Royal Cornwall Hospital Anaesthetic Department in Truro, providing on-call and CEPOD and Trauma anaesthesia on this site. Elective practice will primarily but not exclusively focus upon, orthopaedic anaesthesia at the Cornwall Orthopaedic Centre.
The St. Michael’s Hospital team has for many years performed orthopaedic surgery; however the range of operations and the complexity of patients able to be dealt with is due to be enhanced by a significant investment in staffing and equipment of the pre-operative preparation and perioperative higher care facilities.
St Michael’s Hospital in Hayle has four laminar air flow theatres, fifty six beds on two wards, an outpatient department with a treatment room and a modern x-ray department including physiotherapy and occupational therapy and regularly gets outstanding reviews from patients, friends and family as well as being commended by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Cornwall Orthopaedic Centre @ St Michael’s Hospital will be the only elective orthopaedic hospital in the South West of England and we seek innovative and enthusiastic staff to help progress our goals.
We are already able to provide the most contemporary orthopaedic interventions, including arthroscopic, joint replacement and revision surgery to all joints and long bones.
