We are looking for a dynamic, clinically focussed Microbiologist to fill this vacancy within the Microbiology Department at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. This post attracts 10 Programmed Activities initially and you will be part of a team comprising of 3 (2.6 wte) consultants in a CPA-accredited department, responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and cost-effective clinical microbiology, virology and infection control service to the Trust and other users of the department. The post holder will participate in the varied clinical microbiology workload shared between the consultants, including provision of advice on test interpretation, authorisation of results, review of patients with clinical teams, clinical ward rounds and advice on appropriate antimicrobial therapy and infection control. Out of hours cover is provided by off-site telephone contact on a 1 in 3 rota and remote computer access will be provided for authorisation purposes, the agreed on-call pay banding is A (8%).
It is essential that you have completed higher specialist training in Microbiology and be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of award of CCT or equivalent by the date of interview.

There is a good selection of state and private schools and an excellent range of sporting, recreational and adult education facilities (including a new University). There are efficient road and rail links to London, Birmingham and international airports.
