We are seeking a consultant community paediatrician, to join our team of Paediatricians. This post is a full time (10 PA) post to join the team of Consultant Paediatricians in this integrated department of Paediatrics.  The post holder will join 3 other community paediatricians and work mainly in the Sandwell area for the community paediatric role. This post incorporates the role of designated doctor for looked after children (LAC), adoption and fostering and is RCPCH approved.  This post will commence on 1st September 2018.  Please see the full job description available on the NHS jobs website. There are no general Paediatric acute on call duties attached to this post. 

The Child Development Centre is part of a multiagency centre at Conygre in Tipton. Weekly neuro-developmental clinics take place in the centre. Community paediatricians also run clinics in special schools supported by community children’s nurses. A children’s audiology service is based at the Lyng centre for Health & Wellbeing. A full range of community children’s services is provided by the Trust.

We are passionate about our ethos and philosophy and are driven to provide the best care for our patients.  A clinical skills lab is embedded within the unit allowing emphasis on education within the department. 

The Paediatric Medicine department is renowned for being a popular site for trainees who have a regular in-house teaching programme. Trainees are also involved in teaching and education.  Feedback from the Foundation trainees is one of the best within the Trust. APLS is run within the trust by paediatric consultants. The department has regular presentations at local, national and international meetings of its work, services and innovation.

The successful candidate will be within 6 months of CCT Paediatrics.

Birmingham is a vibrant, multi-cultural city and it is a very exciting place to live and work. It has a population of 1.1 million, the youngest in Europe. Its residents speak over 140 languages and blend different cultures and nationalities with history that is rich in industrial heritage. 
 
The area boasts affordable housing with popular residential districts within an easy commute to either of the main hospital sites. There are a number of very good schools and colleges locally (including a number of independent and grammar schools such as the King Edwards Schools). Birmingham is a very green city with more than 8,000 acres of green space including impressive parks. Due to our central location and good motorway connections we are in easy reach of a number of beautiful rural locations including the Peak District, Cannock Chase, the Lickey Hills and the Cotswolds.
