The Trust wishes to appoint two substantive replacement posts in Respiratory Medicine.

Post 1 must address the specific requirement of Sleep and Ventilation. This post will support the development of acute and chronic NIV as well as the sleep apnoea service within the trust together with another consultant with this subspecialty interest. This will support the reconfiguration of respiratory services in Gloucestershire onto a single site with our ambition to develop a respiratory HDU. There may also be opportunities to support the Dean Neurorehabilitation Unit which provides services for patients from many areas of the country.

Post 2 is for a Respiratory Physician who has the qualities to work in a rapidly evolving service. Consideration will be given to any subspecialty interest, such as lung cancer, pleural disease and severe asthma/complex airways disease.

The department of respiratory medicine has a very close working relationship with acute medicine and is at the forefront of developments towards 7-day services. There are established and developing sub-specialty services including sleep and non-invasive ventilation, interventional bronchoscopy including EBUS and the management of malignant central airway obstruction, tuberculosis, interstitial lung disease, asthma and COPD, non-CF bronchiectasis, and pleural diseases. There are excellent facilities for bronchoscopy and medical thoracoscopy. This is a great opportunity to join a good respiratory service at a key point in its development.

Candidates will however also need to be on/working towards accreditation in G(I)M.

NHS England have recently confirmed that Gloucestershire is to become one of only 14 Integrated Care Systems (ICS) across the country as part of Wave 2. We believe that this will provide a great opportunity for the service to develop integrated respiratory services across Gloucestershire. Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was formed in April 2002 and became a Foundation Trust in July 2004. A successful Trust with a strong track record of achievement, we are situated mainly on the two larger operational sites, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital, providing acute services to Gloucestershire. These services are currently under review with plans being developed to concentrate unscheduled care onto the Gloucestershire Royal Site.

  • Supported the birth of 6,500 babies.
  • Analysed 2.1 million pathology samples.
  • Performed 410,000 imaging examinations (eg x-ray, ultrasound).
  • Provided 32,000 kidney haemodialysis treatment sessions.
