Applications are invited for at least one consultant urological surgeon to join our expanding teaching and tertiary hospital department. Historically one of the largest urology departments in the South East of England, it has grown with the merger of two trusts 15 years ago shortly before the opening of the highly successful Brighton & Sussex Medical School.
The department of urology is now embarking on an ambitious much needed long-term programme of development in order to provide a sustainable teaching hospital service for the local residents of 500,000 as well as the large visitor influx and the broader tertiary service population that Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust serves. This includes a dedicated urological investigation unit which will allow us to provide one stop services. In addition the 3Ts redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County site is underway, which will provide state of the art facilities supporting tertiary services and trauma. As part of this a robotic unit is planned.
The urology department has had a high reputation locally, nationally and internationally for the quality of its clinical and education service. At present it is comprised of a core of 5 full time consultants with other visiting consultants from neighbouring trusts alongside 13 other medical staff mostly in training grades. Applicants are sought for additional teaching hospital consultant post who will bring or be able to develop specialist interests to complement and enhance the existing service which is well supported by usual teaching hospital facilities, nephrology, oncology, vascular surgery and interventional radiology. In recent years the principle focus has been renal cancer, upper tract and stone disease as well as general urology.
The department is well known for its inclusive and collaborative approach and informal inquiries from interested urologists are welcomed.
