Specialty Registrar Lat in General Surgery (ST3 LAT)
Applications are invited for a rotational programme vacancy covering General Surgery at Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin. This post is available to accommodate a surgeon/trainee at level ST3 for a fixed term of one year, from 1st August 2018 until 6th August 2019.
Dr Gray’s Hospital has 178 in-patient beds of which 30 are surgical. In addition, there is a separate day case unit with 19 beds and trolleys.
There is a 10 bed multidisciplinary HDU and a mixed medical and surgical paediatric ward of 12 beds. There are four operating theatres and an endoscopy suite which are equipped with HD video endoscopy and laparoscopic facilities. Later this year it is hoped to open a Surgical Assessment Unit comprising five beds to deal with emergency cases.
Other specialties on site are General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics/Gynaecology, Medical Paediatrics, Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Anaesthesia, Psychiatry, Radiology and Dental Surgery.
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate competencies and skills relevant to general practice type training in hospital including communication, empathy, problem solving and clinical skills. Applicants will be expected to supervise Foundation doctors in certain units.
The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and/or programme has the required educational and Postgraduate Dean’s approval.
Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required.
