Applications are invited for a new post, created to increase expertise in High Risk Obstetrics & Delivery Suite management within the Trust and to provide leadership and innovation within the Directorate of Maternity & Perinatal Medicine.
The Trust is one of the largest Teaching Trusts in the UK, employing 6500 staff, serving a population of over 500,000 and having around 1000 beds. In partnership with PCTs and Local Authorities the Trust is seeking to deliver an ambitious redevelopment of local health services including new models of care and facilities. The plan includes a new state of the art acute hospital (Midland Metropolitan Hospital) this will create some of the largest clinical teams in the country, including a new, large single-site Maternity Unit.
The Trust is fully committed to continuing to develop its Maternity Services, which have received CNST Level 3 recognition. As such, it has invested significantly in the Directorate and will continue to do so to promote an exceptional standard. The successful applicants will be joining a dynamic, evolving team driven to develop excellence in services and care for women & their babies.
All maternity services are provided at City Hospital, delivering approximately 6000 women per year, where there is a large level 2+ NNU and full capability to provide HDU and ITU care to our mothers. There is a nationally recognized co-located midwifery-led birthing unit and a sister, stand-alone unit sited in Sandwell.
The Fetal Medicine Unit was newly developed and equipped in 2010 and provides a full range of FM diagnostic and screening services. The unit has well established links to allied regional services such as clinical genetics, paediatric cardiology and surgery. Antenatal care is based on a specialist multidisciplinary clinic model with clinics being staffed by dual consultants.
This post will dovetail with another Consultant and will have responsibility for promoting in-house delivery suite/obstetric emergency training using current and developing new, innovative training methods for our medical & midwifery staff. There are 5 dedicated obstetricians and 11 other consultants in obstetrics and gynaecology at City Hospital with a full complement of junior staff.
This post is designed to ensure the Directorate maintains 98 hours consultant presence on delivery suite. The job plan is full-time; one half of a two week job plan includes two 12 hour night-shifts in week 1 (with suitable time off around this) and regular daytime clinical commitments in week 2. There is no additional on call and no Fri/weekend work.
Applicants are required to have CCT or equivalent and entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology; full GMC registration, MRCOG (or equivalent) and RCOG ATSM qualification in Advanced Labour Ward practice (or equivalent) are essential (PROMPT/MOET training is desirable).
