We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Medical Officer to join our vibrant and friendly team at the Bay of Islands Hospital. It is a perfect time to join our team with a redevelopment currently underway with a two-storey building being constructed that will include facilitites for an Accident & Medical Department, Radiology, After-Hours GP and Medical Ward. 

Bay of Islands Hospital is a busy 15 bed rural hospital that cares for medical, post-surgical and paediatric patients along with a fast paced Accident & Medical Department. The SMO is responsible for providing medical care to acutely ill patients in the Accident & Medical department as well as managing the inpatients in the General Ward.

The role of the Specialist/Medical Officer is to provide medical care to acutely ill patients as well as the management of inpatients on the General Ward. The cases managed at Bay of Islands Hospital are complex and interesting, with specialist support provided from Whangarei Hospital. This position would suit a Specialist / Medical Officer with Rural Health experience or GP All-Rounder with some Emergency Medicine experience.

Specialist support is provided from Whangarei Hospital. A generous salary package includes substantial support for Continuing Medical Education. Applicants must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.
