Applications are invited for the posts of Paediatric Consultant with Respiratory Interest, at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

There has been a long established paediatric respiratory service at RCHT offering diagnostic and on-going care to children with a diverse range of respiratory conditions including cystic fibrosis, non CF bronchiectasis, severe asthma, empyema, tuberculosis, sleep disordered breathing, respiratory failure secondary to respiratory muscle weakness etc.

The job is a replacement post. The successful applicant would, in addition to sharing the delivery of the Paediatric Respiratory service, contribute to the delivery of general paediatric weeks on service and neonatal weeks on service and on call is provided for combined general paediatrics and neonates on a 1 in 11 rota.  

RCHT offers comprehensive general Paediatrics, with 12 consultants who treat approximately 1000 elective and 6000 emergency admissions per year and has a level 2 Neonatal service, including full care for infants >27 weeks gestation and therapeutic hypothermia (service under review).  A range of sub-specialist clinics are offered in conjunction with the visiting tertiary specialists from Bristol Children’s Hospital. 

The Children’s unit has 29 inpatient beds including 3 HDU beds and an admissions unit plus an 8 bedded surgical daycase unit.  We have relocated our surgical day-case unit into the main Children’s ward area and redesigned and enlarged the admissions unit with short stay observation area.  There is a 20 cot level 2 NNU (LNU).
