An exciting opportunity has arisen for three luminal gastroenterologists/ general hepatology (flexible) at Whipps Cross, Barts Health NHS Trust. You will be provided with great opportunities and facilities to develop their careers in either Upper GI or Infl ammatory bowel disease, and small bowel disease. Full registration with the GMC is essential or within 6 months of completion of CCT.
You will support provision of all portfolio of gastrointestinal services including inpatient and outpatient care for patients with general gastroenterology problems. Furthermore, the appointee will be pursue his/her interest in luminal gastroenterology , either upper GI or Lower GI (inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition) and small bowel disease including capsule endoscopy) expected to perform endoscopy, including being part of the GI Bleed rota. There are MDTs in HPB medicine and IBD, general gastroenterology together with X-ray and pathology meetings.
The post holders will also be a part of the general medical rota on weekdays 1.14 (no weekends).
Gastroenterology sits within the ECAM (Emergency Care and Acute Medicine) directorate.
The Department of Gastroenterology which is a high volume clinical specialty seeing 8000 out-patients, performing approximately 7000 endoscopic procedures and admitting approximately 500 patients annually.
The Department offers a wide range of services including nutrition, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, infl ammatory bowel disease and functional bowel disorders. The unit is attached with 14 bedded clinical research unit, where excellent facilities for clinical research, currently running 15 NIHR portfolio clinical trials.
Endoscopy is provided within a modern 3-roomed unit with integrated screening which is involved in the National Endoscopy Programme. We were part of the first wave in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in early 2007 and will be part of the new Bowel Scope Screening in 2018/19. The Service also plans to expand the Endoscopy Service to create an additional 4th endoscopy procedure room, expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
