Applications are invited for a new consultant post joining the Rowans hospice, Southern Health NHSF Trust and Solent NHS Trust community specialist palliative care teams serving Portsmouth and South East Hampshire. You will join the existing medical team of three consultants, Associate Specialist, four Specialty Doctors, and trainees supporting our comprehensive multi-professional palliative care and hospice services.

The post is based at the Rowans Hospice, but employed & managed by Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. You will join the Consultants and Associate Specialist in providing senior medical support to the hospice ward team and the community palliative care teams serving Portsmouth City, South East Hampshire and Fareham & Gosport CCGs.

On call is 1 in 5 weekdays and weekends. This covers the Hospice in-patient unit 2nd on and 1st on for Hospice at Home, community service and Portsmouth Hospitals Trust advice calls (experienced Specialty Drs when 1st on often take these calls). 2 substantive Consultant posts are currently being advertised by PHT which will further reduce the frequency of on-call when filled.

The successful candidate will develop a new role as the Research & Clinical Effectiveness Lead across the services.

The Rowans Hospice is a 19 bed independent charitable hospice also providing Day Centre, Hospice at Home and other supportive professional and volunteer services both on site, in the new adjacent Living Well Centre and into the community. The Hospice also provides the base for the South East Hampshire community SPC team and the Solent psychology and bereavement service. The NHS and charitable services based at Rowans Hospice work seamlessly in partnership with the Solent NHS Trust community SPC team based two miles away on the edge of Portsmouth.

All services share active education and training programmes with excellent educational facilities at The Rowans Hospice and lead on multi-professional education of all aspects of end of life care across Portsmouth and South East Hampshire.

The area of Portsmouth and South East Hampshire is well placed for a choice of urban, rural or coastal lifestyles. There are excellent transport links to London and the rest of the country and ferry links to the Isle of Wight and France.
