Applications are sought for a full-time (10 PAs) Consultant Nephrologist with a specialist interest in renal transplantation medicine to form part of the transplant MDT at the Wessex Kidney Network (based in Portsmouth). This is a busy unit providing renal services to a catchment of 2.2million people in the central south coast area of England.
The transplant team comprises five surgeons, five physicians (including this post) and a team of specialist nurses and transplant coordinators. The unit undertakes around 100 transplants per year. The post-holder will attend the post-transplant ward rounds and outpatient clinics (for 6 months post transplant) on a rotation. The successful applicant will also take a lead in developing protocols and SOPs related to transplant medicine. Research experience in the area of transplantation is desirable. There are opportunities for continuing research at the Universities of Portsmouth and Southampton.
In addition to the role in transplantation, the post includes responsibility for general nephrology as part of the wider consultant team (19 nephrologists) with on-call at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth on a 1:10 basis.
