Consultant in Clinical/ Medical Oncology
Applications are invited for a Consultant in Clinical or Medical Oncology with a specialist interest in Urology, Germ cell and Acute Oncology. This is a substantive appointment, based at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in Northwood, London. The post comprises 8-10 programmed activities (PAs) and an on-call commitment.
This is an excellent opportunity to initiate the redesign of the urology and germ cell service within West Hertfordshire NHS Trust whilst consolidating the acute oncology service at WHHT. Applications are invited for this new post available immediately to provide urology and germ cell specific services to the population of West Hertfordshire whilst maintaining the successful AOS service at Watford General Hospital, along with consultant colleagues. The post holder will be joining a dynamic team of surgeons and site specific oncologists with a significant national reputation in the field of service development and research. They will work closely with a Clinical Oncologist specialsing in Urology at Mount and Watford and a Medical Oncologist specialising in Germ Cell Tumours at Mount Vernon and The Lister
Mount Vernon Cancer Centre is the largest single site cancer centre in the south of England, with 22 clinical oncologists, 9 medical oncologists, 2 haematologists, 4 cancer radiologists and 3 palliative care physicians, serving 15 surrounding hospitals.
Mount Vernon Cancer Centre is a stand-alone centre. There are 41 inpatient beds with 2 ‘step-up’ beds. Specialist medical and surgical care is provided by SLAs with Hillingdon, Watford and Harefield Hospitals. There are a number of dedicated research beds. There is an on-site Hospice (Michael Sobell House) with 16 in-patient beds.
The Cancer Centre currently has 8 Linear accelerators (including 2 TrueBEAM machines capable of delivering rapid arc therapy) and three CT simulators. It has state of the art brachytherapy equipment with active HDR brachytherapy and seed implant programs including an open bore MRI for radiotherapy planning. The first Cyberknife facility in the NHS in the UK has been clinical since 2010.
Research opportunities are excellent within the cancer centre and at all peripheral sites.
