Consultant in Emergency Medicine
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Here at Southend University Hospital we strive to provide high quality care for every patient, every time.
We would be nothing without our staff. So it goes without saying that when it comes to recruiting new team members, we're looking for the best. We encourage staff to be innovative, to challenge the "as is" and to always put patients first.
We want staff who will live our trust values every day.
Care with compassion, Working together, Professional and accountable
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join our existing team of Consultants to commence as soon as possible
Southend University Hospital is keen to appoint enthusiastic Emergency Medicine Specialists to continue expansion of the workforce. The department saw over 102 000 patients last year of which 26 000 were paediatric patients.
The individual should be committed to providing excellent shop floor coverage to enhance patient care and support the more junior staff. We are a friendly department with a stable work force many of whom have remained in the department for years. We are committed to fully treating the patient prior to specialty referral and have policies such as adult and paediatric sedation in place to do so.
We have our own departmental Ultrasound machine with many of our doctors trained and experienced in its use. The CT scanner is adjacent to the department and the Emergency Team are fully involved with stroke patients undergoing thrombolysis 24/7.
We have GP streaming at the front door 13 hours a day run by navigators and the consultant team to direct non-Emergency patients into a separate GP stream using modified L&D criteria.
We are performing second best in the region for numbers sent to GP behind L&D alone. We have access to clinical decision beds based on our own criteria.
The department has been fully refurbished and there is a brand new separate paediatric ED next to adult ED. We have regular consultant meetings as well as weekly Departmental or audit meetings which involve all of the staff in the ED to share information and gather feedback and ideas.
