We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Cardiologist to join our team and lead the echocardiography service at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust. Dorset Heart Centre is a large and flourishing cardiac unit providing the regional PPCI and EP-ablation services for Dorset, and adjacent parts of Hampshire and Wiltshire, a catchment of approximately 1 million.
This is a replacement post and we require an enthusiastic and dynamic cardiologist proficient in all aspects of general cardiology with subspecialty skills in advanced echocardiography and transoesophageal echocardiography. Additional subspecialty interests may also be considered. There are no general medical commitments in this post.
In addition to a general cardiology contribution it is envisaged that the post holder will lead and shape a thriving echocardiography service.
Our echo unit holds BSE Departmental Accreditation and performs 12,000-13,000 trans-thoracic and 600 trans-oesophageal echocardiograms per annum. 2D/3D and GLS techniques are all provided and there are opportunities to further develop advanced, stress echocardiography and physiology led services.
As part of Dorset’s Clinical Services Review, Poole and Bournemouth Hospitals are working in ever-closer collaboration to deliver excellent emergency and planned care in east Dorset.
The successful candidate joining our team will have a unique opportunity to play a central role in the redesign and development of contemporary state-of-the-art cardiology and cardiac imaging services for east Dorset.
Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register or have their CCT. Applicants who are within six months of obtaining their CCT on the date of the AAC may also apply.
