Applications are invited for a Consultant Chemical Pathologist with / without Metabolic Medicine to join an enthusiastic laboratory team providing a wide range of service support for clinical activity and research at Nottingham University Hospitals. It offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the two existing Consultant Chemical Pathologists and two Consultant Clinical Scientists on the two campuses, and is a replacement post. As the successful candidate, you will play a key role in the provision and management of the Clinical Biochemistry services, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and will have specific duties in clinical validation and the reporting of results in specialist areas. Direct clinical responsibility will be in the Cardiovascular Risk clinics and on the Nutrition / TPN team. Our laboratories are modern and we have substantial input into research and training with very active research groups. Specialist diagnostic areas include molecular genetics, immunochemistry and inborn errors of metabolism. As a department we are involved in postgraduate and undergraduate medical training. Participation in research will be encouraged. We are a dynamic and friendly department with flexibility to accommodate a talented individual.

This advert is for a full-time Consultant Chemical Pathologist (with or without Metabolic Medicine), based at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a replacement post. The successful candidate will be on the Full and Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. It is expected that the appointee will hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) or show evidence of equivalent training and experience. Because of the significant direct clinical care component of the post, holding the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) would be beneficial however this is not essential.

NUH is recognised as one of the leading trusts in the UK, providing adult and paediatric services for the population of Nottingham. We provide emergency and specialist laboratory services to primary, secondary and tertiary care.

Applicants must be registered with the GMC and be on the GMC specialist register, or be within 6 months of attaining specialist registration at the time of interview.

The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay).

Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
