This is an exceptional opportunity for a new appointment to Consultant oncologist to support clinical trials in Experimental Cancer Medicine at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

In order to support our growth as a centre of excellence in research, we are looking to recruit a consultant oncologist to support our existing research staff. You will be based in the Experimental Cancer Medicine Team (ECMT). This team supports a large number of commercial-sponsored Phase 1 trials.

The Experimental Cancer Medicine Team is also expanding its investigator-led clinical trial portfolio.

The post holder will be expected to develop and lead programmes of externally-funded research work in the pursuit of a personalised medicine agenda and lead early phase clinical trial research in the Experimental Cancer Medicine Team. The appointee will have expertise in translational and early phase clinical research and have a proven track record in their field. It is anticipated that the post holder will develop and co-ordinate existing and emerging strengths to ensure The Christie becomes a leading centre in experimental cancer medicine.

The post provides for world class clinical facilities to conduct experimental cancer medicine in the Christie Clinical Research Facility and excellent opportunities for translational research in collaboration with local groups (Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, Clinical Experimental Pharmacology Group, Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre, MCRC Biobank and Manchester Centre for Genomic Research). The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe, and an international leader in cancer research and development. We are one of the leading centres in the UK for clinical trials and radiotherapy research treating over 40,000 patients a year and seeing over 14,000 new patients a year, and the first designated comprehensive centre in the UK. In 2010, we also opened our new patient treatment centre, the largest clinical trials unit of its kind at present. Through this development, we aspire to put Manchester at the forefront of international research.
