Dunedin Hospital Surgical Registrars gain exposure to a range of surgical specialties and subspecialties (including tertiary level caseloads) – why would you consider anywhere else?

Our General Surgery department is seeking applications from Registrars to fill a range of positions and who can commence as soon as possible. We are moving to a new roster under the Safer Rosters framework and this has resulted in the need to fill a number of additional positions. Runs available to General Surgery Registrars throughout their training at Dunedin Hospital are:

  • General Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Breast Surgery
  • Plastics
  • Reliever (Relievers will also cover the Urology Registrar)

There are also regular rotations to:

  • Cardiothoracic Surgery (1 Registrar every 6 months)
  • ICU (1 Registrar every 6 months)
  • Opportunities exist for a rotation to ED if desired

The runs available to successful candidates will depend on the start date.

By working in a University Hospital and being guided by a team of dedicated Surgeons, Registrars will experience great support for educational needs. Weekly teaching plus case discussions, journal clubs and peer review sessions are part of the regular events available.

In a department that has a strong academic presence; opportunities for successful candidates will be far and wide, and will involve the ability to undertake research as part of training.

You will have a minimum of two years post graduate medical experience, possess a strong surgical interest.

Southern DHB is open to discussing how they can support you with some of your relocation costs. Please let us know either when making an application, or prior to, if you are interested in this support.
