The Emergency Departments of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital together form one of the busiest services in the South West, with combined new attendances of approximately 130,000 per year.  The hospitals are nine miles apart.

A single Major Trauma Unit is based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, along with Women’s services and the Paediatric in-patient service. The Acute Stroke service is also based in Gloucester.

Cheltenham General Hospital has a state of the art Cardiac Cath lab and provides the Acute Cardiac Intervention service.  Vascular services moved to Cheltenham in 2014.

As part of an ongoing programme of reconfiguration, in August 2013 a nurse practitioner-based service was developed in Cheltenham at night and full Emergency Department services are now focused on the Gloucestershire Royal site.

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust was formed in 2002 and became a Foundation Trust in 2004. With its close proximity to the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean, its excellent cultural and recreational facilities, superb housing and schools, you will find Gloucestershire a highly desirable place to live and work.
