Applications are invited for a Substantive Consultant in Cardiology, 1 x with an Interest in Coronary intervention and transcatheter Aortic Valve Intervention). This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing department within Northwick Park Hospital, Central Middlesex and Ealing Hospitals. Consultants are expected to work at all sites of the Trust delivering outpatient care and to liaise with colleagues and GPs.

The job has been created to provide and develop a 1 in 10 consultant on-call service (Consultant of the Week) with the increasingly busy Acute Medical Assessment Unit to provide the best possible care to our cardiac patients. The department is working eventually towards providing 24/7 acute cardiac services and this new role will be an integral part to this provision. As a department we are extremely productive, we perform more than 700 angioplasties a year (Trust wide). The department performs more than 400 pacing procedures a year.

The successful candidate for the imaging consultant role will be expected to lead the world-renowned echo department which performs more than 24,000 transthoracic echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms and TOE’s per year, working closely with the Chief Cardiac Physiologists and their team to oversee the management and overall governance of our busy department.

The appointee will be expected to lead weekly educational meetings. Currently we perform more than 1000 cardiac CT scans and more than 500 cardiac MRI scans (at Ealing site).  There is an expectation that they will build on and develop current non-echo Cardiac Imaging services across all sites as well as to actively contribute in imaging research and audit. Expertise in Cardiac CT, Cardiac MRI along with traditional Echocardiography skills is essential.

The interventional consultant role will be expected to work at least 3 Cath lab sessions a week and contribute with the other interventional consultants towards providing 24/7 emergency Cath lab cover. The candidate must have completed sub-specialty training in interventional cardiology. Good experience of PCI is essential and the ability to perform brady pacing is desirable. There is an expectation for the candidate to develop specialist TAVI clinics with a view to developing sessions at the local tertiary Centre implanting these valves.

London North West Healthcare (LNWH) was created on 1 October 2014 as a result of the merger of the North West London Hospitals and Ealing Hospital. The hospitals are set in the London Boroughs of Harrow, Ealing and Brent and serve a local population of more than 8000,000 plus patients referred from throughout the UK and abroad. The turnover of the Trust is in the region of £450 million with 8,000 WTE staff. It is one of the biggest and busiest Trusts in the capital.

LNWH is one of the busiest and most active acute Trusts in London, and part of Imperial College Health Partners. Our emergency departments are already very active, with over 100,000 attendances at our Northwick Park site alone, but we are not standing still.  We have strong vision for the future, including the expansion of both our physical resources and workforce, alongside significant capital spend on a state-of-the-art department at Northwick Park which opened in December 2014, as well as developing one of London’s eight Hyper Acute Stoke Units along with new emergency and vascular theatres.
