Applications are invited for a position in Emergency Medicine for 12 months fixed term contract. Post holders will work on the Emergency Decisions Unit (EDU) which is run by the Emergency Department.

A new, purposely designed, 12 bedded, EDU will open on June 4th 2018. Patients will be admitted to the unit on specific pathways of care from the Emergency Department, to allow continuation of their care. The unit is short stay (less than 24 hours). Examples of pathways are head injury, anaphylaxis, mental health, post trauma and toxicology.

This post will offer you a clinical supervisor, designated study days as well as opportunities to attend other established training courses.

The post is especially suited to candidates who wish to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine or acute medicine (especially if you have an interest in toxicology). The post is at middle grade level and will involve supervision of junior medical staff. It is ideal for candidates who have done core training and wish to develop their skills. It is also suitable for an OOPE, subject to approval by your training body.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the UK. The Emergency Department (ED) is based at Leicester Royal Infirmary where we currently see 150,000 patients a year. Our Resus room sees over 12,500 patients a year with complex multi-system pathologies all of which provide an environment to practice challenging but very rewarding Emergency Medicine.

A multi-million pound rebuild of the emergency department was opened in April 2017, with phase 2 currently in progress, to move Medical Specialties to create an emergency floor. UHL has strategic objectives which include building a world class reputation in research, education and training relevant to the diverse population in Leicester, delivering an excellent patient experience and ensuring UHL is fit for purpose.

Our purpose is to deliver “Caring at its best” for all the people who visit Leicester’s hospitals, either as patients, the public or as staff. Our vision is to move from where we are now to where we want to be, locally known as the journey from ‘Good to Great’. As part of our team you too can show your commitment to the delivery of high quality services to patients with our Trust values

Please submit your application form without delay to avoid disappointment; we will close vacancies prior to the publishing closing date if we receive a sufficient number of completed application forms.

Please check the email account (including your junk mail) that you supplied as part of your application on a regular basis following the closing date and throughout the recruitment process, as this is how we will communicate with you.

We are committed to delivering equality of opportunity for all of our service users, and for out staff. Our aim is to create a workplace in which discrimination is outlawed, and staff and service users are equally valued and supported.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship (formerly a Work Permit)

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Border Agency requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit UK Border Agency website.
