Special interest in Intensive Care
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust during a time of redevelopment of services. The government has recently announced a capital injection of £312 million for the transformation of the health services in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Mid Wales. This will include two vibrant hospitals: a planned care site and an acute care site, where a new state of the art 40 bedded ITU will be built.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant Anaesthetist with a special interest in modern Intensive Care and a passion to help drive forward improvements to the care of critically ill patients. The successful applicant would be given the opportunity to assist in the design of the new unit and help with planning the future of the critical care service.
There are currently 2 intensive care units across the Trust, with 8 ITU Consultants at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and 3 at the Princess Royal Hospital. With the expansion of numbers of ITU Consultants there will be sessions on both the units. At RSH there is an 8 week rota with 2 weeks spent just on the ITU. On calls would be at Shrewsbury on a 1 in 8 basis.
Theatre sessions could be based at either hospital depending on the individual’s interest.
The post currently attracts 10 Programmed Activities with the opportunity to take on more clinical sessions if desired.
The Anaesthetic Department currently services the following specialties: Vascular, Colorectal, Bariatric, upper GI, Trauma, Urology as well as some day case Gynaecology, Max fax / ENT and Ophthalmology. Women’s and children’s services are based at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. There are Accident and Emergency Departments at both hospitals.
The on call rota is a 1 in 8 for Intensive Care only. There is a separate general on call rota.
You must possess full registration with a licence to practice with the General Medical Council and it is essential that you are eligible for entry onto the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights.
The Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust serves the total population of Shropshire and Powys which numbers approximately 600,000. The Trust has Associate Teaching School status and has medical students attending from Keele University.
