Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, a multi-award winning Trust and voted one of the top 10 best places to work in the NHS, is a well-managed and financially stable foundation trust with an excellent track record of providing high quality mental health and learning disability services to 2 million people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, North Yorkshire and York and Selby.

This is a newly developed post seeking a dynamic Specialty Doctor to work alongside the two consultant psychiatrists and other team members of both community mental health team (CMHT) and memory clinic. The post holder will provide medical input under supervision of a consultant psychiatrist to community mental health team and memory services in the Harrogate locality based at Alexander House, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire along the lines of New Ways of Working within a 8 PA clinical session and there will be 2 PA commitment to Supporting professional activities. The Specialty Doctor would not be expected to do initial assessments routinely. There will be on average 8 diagnostic appointments across memory and CMHT /week and 6 review appointments. The Specialty Doctor will not be expected to carry a caseload.

The Specialty Doctor will be expected to work alongside with one shared trainee junior doctor (CT1-3) attached to CMHT and memory clinic. Among the other two consultants, one provides input into the Inpatient team (Rowan ward), the second provides input into to the acute hospital liaison services (AHLS) and RRICE (Rapid Response Intermediate Care) team.

The locality is currently undergoing quality improvement work to divest from in-patient led care with significant enhancing of community team capacity. The aim of this is to provide treatment and care for patients in their own homes for as long as possible. These changes are being considered subject to consultation and feasibility studies and in line with national guidelines per population.

Informal enquiries and arrangements to visit the Trust are welcomed by Dr Suman Ahmed, Acting Clinical Director for Mental Health Services for Older People (North Yorkshire) on (01423) 795150
