Consultant Physician - Special Interest in ED Interface and Frailty
St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the leading acute Trusts in the North West of England. We provide a full range of acute adult services to our local population of circa 350,000 and provide tertiary services across a much wider area in the North West, North Wales and Isle of Man. We are a Major Trauma Unit and the Mersey Regional Burns Unit.

This is a new post to join the department of medicine for older people that has a total of 16 consultant colleagues (including this post) with further expansion being discussed.
The successful appointee will be part of a happy and friendly team that is forward looking with a lot of support from the executive board for the department. We are in the process of expanding our frailty services, liaison working and community services as part of our departmental vision. The department has consecutively won the hospital awards in the last four years with Frailty, Orthogeriatrics, stroke and Intermediate care unit in Duffy emerging as winners in the recent Trust annual awards in April 2018.
The Trust is one of the most sought after teaching venues for students from the University of Liverpool and attracts high quality, enthusiastic trainees. The department has a high profile within the Medical Care Group with an established and very successful Stroke service, Orthogeriatrics and Frailty service. There will be an opportunity to develop the strand of ED interface and liaison working.
The DMOP provides 7 day services with 1 in 8 weekend rota for consultants to provide ward rounds into the Frailty unit on 1A and 2 existing core DMOP ward/Board rounds to facilitate prompt senior medical input and to maintain flow.
The stroke consultants run a separate 1 in 8 rota for stroke services. The successful appointee will not be required to provide services to the stroke team.
This is an 11.5 PA job plan and will be reviewed annually. The interview date will be confirmed after the closing date of applications.
