Clinical Faculty Position, Medical Genetics

The Division of Medical Genetics, in the Department of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre invites applications for a part-time (0.6 FTE) clinical faculty position as a Medical Geneticist at the Assistant/Associate level. This individual would join a team of 6 Medical Geneticists, 12 Genetic Counsellors, 3 Metabolic Nurses and a Metabolic Dietician. The academic physician will provide clinical service and participate in teaching and/or research in an academic environment. Preference will be given to physicians with CCMG Biochemical Disease fellowship or equivalent training. In addition, for applicants qualified in Paediatrics, opportunities to work in General Paediatrics can be negotiated.
The division of Medical Genetics, located at the IWK Hospital, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, provides genetic consultation and care to the Maritime Provinces with a population of 1.9 million people. We deliver comprehensive coverage of Cancer, Prenatal, Pediatric, Adult and Metabolic genetics. We have the strong support of Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics, and Metabolic laboratory services, all on site. We have strong collaborations with Pediatrics, Neonatology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and with Adult and Paediatric Cardiology, Oncology, and Neurology services. We provide Medical Genetics teaching to undergraduates at Dalhousie University, as well as Medical Genetics teaching to Medical Students, Residents and Fellows. We have close collaborations with Dalhousie PhD scientists and clinicians in other disciplines performing human genetics research.

Required qualifications include an MD (or equivalent) and certification in Medical Genetics with a FRCPC or FCCMG, or be board certified in Pediatrics with completion of CCMG Biochemical Diseases Fellowship (or equivalent). Eligibility for licensure in Nova Scotia is essential.
