Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust is responsible for providing mental health services for people of all ages across the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, as well as providing some specialist services across the whole of North London and beyond. Since January 2011, the Trust also provides adult and children’s community health services in Enfield, following the transfer of Enfield Community Services from NHS Enfield.

Consultant Psychiatrist - Liaison Psychiatry

Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust provides mental health services to residents of the three boroughs in North London. We are seeking to appoint to a new post: Consultant Psychiatrist to the Mental Health Liaison Service based in North Middlesex University Hospital.
The Mental Health Liaison Service sees patients from the age of 16 upwards including older adults. Staffing includes almost three FTE consultant psychiatrists, a team manager, a psychologist, nine nurses, graduate mental health workers, and administrative support. In addition the team has very recently recruited 8 Peer Support Workers to work a shift pattern alongside the MHLS nurses in the Emergency Department. The main clinical areas for this post are:
- Assessment of patients attending the Emergency Department
- Assessment and ongoing management of in-patients on the wards in NMUH with mental health problems
- To support clinical staff in NMUH working with patients with mental health problems.
A significant component of this liaison psychiatry model is teaching and training. The consultant would be expected to contribute to this.
Candidates must have experience of working in Liaison Psychiatry. The ideal candidate would have experience in both working age and older adults. However candidates with experience in either area may apply. MRCPsych and Section 12(2) Approval are essential.
