We are delighted to offer a full-time post for a dynamic and motivated Ophthalmologist to join the team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a very exciting time to join the Ophthalmology Department as the Trust was awarded the contract by Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group to deliver an Ophthalmology Service in Barnsley at the beginning of 2017.

The Trust plans to significantly invest in the redesign of the service over the next three years in order to deliver an efficient, patient-centred, one-stop service in partnership with other local providers.

The successful candidate will have experience in a wide range of general Ophthalmology including proficiency in high volume cataract surgery.

The post will provide an opportunity to develop a sub-specialty interest complementary to the current sub-specialty interests of Medical Retina, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Uveitis, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus and Cornea.

We would especially welcome applications from candidates with a sub-specialty interest in Glaucoma. The service is supported by an expanding number of Specialty Doctors, Orthoptists and Specialist Nurses. There are plans for extending the role of Nurse Practitioners and Orthoptists and wehave recently appointed two Optometrists to support paediatric clinics.

The successful candidate will be expected to play an integral part in shaping the department moving forwards.

The Ophthalmology Outpatient facilities boast state of the art equipment including a modern OCT, Fundus camera, B-scan ultrasound, Argon type Laser with Pascal type delivery system, YAG and SLT

Laser, two visual field machines and modern Biometry equipment. The Trust has recently increased its day surgery capacity and our Ophthalmic theatre facilities include a state of the art Zeiss microscope with high definitionmonitoring and recording equipment and two modern Stellaris phacomachines.

Successful candidates can expect an individual induction programme, an optional “Shadowing” period, research and development facilities, high quality clinical and surgical facilities, mentoring from senior Consultants and support for developing specialist skills.

If you would like to know more about the department or arrange an informal visit, please contact Dr Jo Butterworth, Clinical Director on 01226 432039 or 01226 436125, Miss Anne-Marie Firan, Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology on 01226 432156, Miss Nicola Beaumont, General Manager on 01226 434372 or Mrs Beverly McGeorge, Service Manager on 01226 432164.
