GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN NHS FOUNDATION TRUST AND THE INSTITUTE OF CHILD HEALTH

PAEDIATRIC LABORATORY MEDICINE

CHARLES WEST DIVISION

Applications are invited for a 10 PA Consultant in Microbiology and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) post based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH). Applications will also be considered from those wishing to work part time or on a job share basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to be appointed to a newly created post with an aim of further developing an overarching antimicrobial stewardship programme within GOSH, working closely with Paediatric Infectious Disease service. Dedicated time will be allocated for this, alongside integration into the existing Microbiology Clinical Service.

The Department of Medical Microbiology is a UKAS ISO 15189 accredited laboratory which provides a full range of high quality routine and specialist microbiology and virology investigations and clinical advice service, as required for the accurate diagnosis and appropriate management of children with infection, together with a full infection control service for the prevention, investigation and control of health care associated infections in patients and staff. The Department is research active, and engaged in cutting edge translational research bringing novel investigations into routine laboratory service. Together with our Infectious Disease Colleagues, we deliver a comprehensive ward round and MDT service in Intensive Care, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Transplant, BMT/Immunology, Haematology and Oncology with monthly MDTs with the Renal and Neurology Teams. One of the main aims of the AMS Team is to deliver face to face AMS ward rounds to the other Hospital Specialties.

The post holder would join a team of 3 full time Consultant Microbiologists, a 3PA/week Consultant Virologist, a London Deanery rotating Microbiology SpR, a team of expert Biomedical and Health Care Scientists, and a team of Infection Control Specialists.

This post involves one night per week on call for Microbiology and currently involves a 1:4 weekend on call (non-resident) rota. Attendance at the hospital on the Saturday of the weekend on call is expected unless covering the SpR. The Core hours on Saturday are 930am to 1630. Sunday core hours (1030-1430) can be worked remotely.

Applicants are expected to be FRCPath qualified, and have extensive experience in General Clinical Microbiology and Virology.

Interested applicants are invited to contact Dr Garth Dixon, Consultant in Medical Microbiology, on 020 7405 9200 ext. 8594 or email garth.dixon@gosh.nhs.uk.

All applicants must either be on the General Medical Council's specialist register or be within six months of obtaining their CCST/CCT award at the time of application.

All applicants should return their application forms electronically. To apply online, please go to NHS Jobs you will need to register first before you submit your application. If you need any assistance please contact us via email at vacancy@gosh.nhs.uk quoting the relevant reference number.
