Applications are invited for whole-time or part-time Substantive Consultant Post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

This is a replacement substantive post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the Women’s & Children’s Clinical Management Group (CMG) and attracts 10.5 PA.

This is an ideal opportunity for a suitable candidate settle in a substantive post in a vibrant and multicultural city. The successful candidate will join a large obstetrics and gynaecology team with good working relationships.

The role involves general gynaecology clinics (in a peripheral hospital in Hinckley) and operating sessions (LGH (inpatient) and Hinckley (Daycase)), cover of the acute gynaecology service and acute gynaecology on calls, outpatient hysteroscopy clinics for postmenopausal bleeding and supporting the termination of pregnancy service by carrying out surgical termination of pregnancy lists on patients up to 13/40 gestation to cover annual leave (approx. 1:8). The successful candidate will have no objection to participating in the provision of abortion care and will have evidence to support this.

There are excellent opportunities to develop skills in OP hysteroscopic procedures, Minimal access surgery and to contribute to the rapidly expanding academic profile of the Gynaecology Team in Leicester.

Obstetric commitments do not involve labour ward cover and are limited to Antenatal clinics, elective obstetric surgery (elective Caesarean section and cervical cerclage) antenatal ward rounds and provision of senior cover for the Maternity Assessment Unit. There is no obstetric on call commitment in this post. Mentoring and support will be given where required

There is a requirement to work across both sites where our CMG delivers Obstetrics & Gynaecology as well as delivery of gynaecological services in one of our community hospitals (Hinckley) and to contribute to the Gynaecology on call emergency service as well as development opportunities to contribute to the Gynaecology Ambulatory service. There will be an opportunity to help with developments occurring in a changing service delivery environment.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be undertaken

You will be expected to participate in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit as well as undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.
