Applications are invited from dynamic and motivated individuals to expand our current complement of 6 consultants.

The 2 new appointees would have general luminal gastroenterology and endoscopy skills. Expertise in other sub-specialty interests would be encouraged (including but not limited to EUS, nutrition, hepatology).

The trust comprises 3 inter-linked hospitals including Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Alexandra Hospital, Redditch and Kidderminster Treatment Centre. Successful appointees would be expected to work across site with in-patients at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The trust serves a population of 600,000 and currently provides out-patient gastroenterology at three sites and an in-patient service at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

An on-call endoscopy and referral service is provided to Redditch by the on call Gastroenterology consultant.  ERCP, EUS, oesophageal and colonic metal stenting, complex therapeutic colonoscopy and bowel cancer screening are all performed. Weekly multidisciplinary meetings are held to review all cases of GI and HPB cancer. There are also monthly MDT meetings for IBD and GI pathology meetings.

The service is currently supported by 2 IBD specialist nurses who manage the helpline for symptom management, drug side effects and complications. They manage the video capsule endoscopy service and biologics service.

Work is currently ongoing to increase this complement of specialist nurses to expand the service further and a third post is being sought via a business case submission. We are also seeking to appoint further gastroenterology consultants via the business case to bring us to a total of 10.
