Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine
Eight Programmed Activities (PA) per week
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic doctor to join a dynamic and forward looking specialist palliative care team. Saint Catherine’s Hospice enjoys a national reputation, particularly for its palliative care in non malignant disease.
Scarborough is an attractive seaside town on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. It is less than an hour from York, within easy striking distance from Leeds, and 3 hours train journey from London Kings Cross.
This post has arisen due to a colleague’s maternity leave. The post will commence in August 2018 and is for an initial period of 8 months. The post holder will join three existing consultants to provide high quality clinical care in the hospice, community and Acute Trust. The appointment will have honorary consultant status in York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the successful candidate will be the Clinical Lead for Palliative Medicine within Scarborough Hospital.
Saint Catherine’s Community Palliative Care Team has well established links and provides excellent care across the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale area. Hospice services include a purpose built 18 bedded inpatient unit, a Wellbeing Centre, out-patient clinics, regional lymphoedema service, and support for palliative care patients at home and in the local community hospitals. The hospice has one of the first joint heart failure/palliative care services in the country, and a unique palliative neurology service catering for the needs of people with progressive neurological conditions. Strong links with local commissioning groups and the Acute Trust have also allowed the hospice to develop innovative services including a care home specialist nursing service and End of Life Nurse Led care beds.
Saint Catherine’s Hospice has a busy education centre with a national reputation and a strong commitment to pre and post-graduate education. The hospice is actively involved with the Yorkshire Deanery StR rotation, the local GP vocational training scheme and Hull York Medical School. As a Professorial Unit, we also have a strong commitment to palliative care research.
