The Trust Boards of Bedford Hospital and Luton and Dunstable University Hospital have agreed to explore plans to merge and form one NHS Trust later this year. Under the umbrella of the single NHS Trust, both hospitals will retain their identity and individual hospital names. All key services will remain on both sites and will be managed as single teams across the whole Bedfordshire catchment area. This will bring many benefits for patients including much improved continuity of care.

Applications are invited for a substantive post of 1 full time Consultant in the Department of Microbiology.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and committed individual to contribute to the development of Clinical Microbiology and Infection services in a district general hospital which has successfully modernised its Clinical Microbiology service with a complete refresh of the laboratory equipment.
The successful applicant will form part of a team providing microbiology and infection control services. It is intended that the appointee will have particular responsibility for infection control. The Trust has seen a dramatic improvement in infection rates in the last few years and is keen to appoint a candidate who can continue and improve on this success.
This is an exciting time for Bedford. Increases in the local population over the next ten years will mean that the hospital will serve a community of over 500,000.
