We are looking for an individual to fill this new post within the Clinical Oncology Department at The Leeds Cancer Centre, St James’s University Hospital.

This is a new 10 PA NHS post for a consultant clinical oncologist, with special interests in lung cancer and acute oncology/CUP. This post will join an established team within the Leeds Cancer Centre providing non-surgical lung cancer and acute oncology/CUP services working closely with colleagues providing similar services across West Yorkshire. The successful applicant will be able to develop specialised skills in the planning and supervision of radiotherapy for lung cancer including IMRT and SABR. In addition, there will be an exciting opportunity to lead and develop the acute oncology service and make a substantial contribution to the CUP service. They will join 8 other oncologist treating lung cancer and a team including consultant oncologists, staff grades, specialist nurses and administrative staff delivering the acute oncology/CUP service.

Leeds Cancer Centre is one of the most prestigious oncology departments in the UK, providing an ideal infrastructure for high quality multidisciplinary cancer services and ensuring the best outcomes for the catchment population of West Yorkshire. In addition, there is a well established academic department of clinical oncology with a strong clinical research portfolio.

The successful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in clinical oncology and it would be desirable if they had evidence of experience of treating lung and CUP tumours as well as experience of acute oncology. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10 minute presentation on: ‘What will the treatment of cancer look like in 10 years’ time?’
