Consultants in Emergency Medicine
The University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is one of, the largest Trusts in the UK for delivering Emergency Care. By applying to work at our hospitals at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull, (HGS) you will be joining a consultant team with over 150 years of joint experience in delivering Emergency Care, with a wide range of special interests. Our people are our focus. We are a driven, passionate and supportive team, working together to deliver the best care possible for our patients.
Across the three HGS sites we see approximately 250,000 patients a year with Heartlands Hospital being the largest and functioning as: a Trauma Unit; site for centralized Stroke and Primary PCI services; and offering advanced Tertiary Thoracic and Vascular services. Heartlands and Good Hope sites are both supported by: advanced, newly-refurbished Resuscitation Rooms; separate Paediatric Emergency Departments; GP in ED services; Rapid Assessment and Treatment services; and supporting ambulatory care and frailty units.
As part of a large team, consultants are able to work flexibly to balance work and home life. Our job plans are annualised and offer great flexibility with consultants able to pursue special interests outside emergency care which have included: establishing hospital units abroad; working at other Trusts; medico-legal work and working within the media.
We are learning every day. We have high quality training programmes, research, audits and quality improvement projects running across the department. As a department we pride ourselves on innovation with recent examples such as the HECTOR project paving the way for Silver Trauma Care and receiving recognition in the CRN awards and the 2018 BMJ Awards. Come to Birmingham and you will see a real diversity of lifestyles. Whether you like the rural life and the pursuit of outdoor interests or prefer inner city living, Birmingham has everything to offer.
As the second-largest city in the UK, you’ll find that Birmingham’s vibrant culture is ever-changing through ongoing regeneration, renewal and grandscale
construction. So whatever your tastes, hobbies or lifestyle, Birmingham has something to offer.
Working in our Emergency Department is fast-paced, challenging and always interesting. Everyone’s voice is valued to harness ideas for innovation and we are always looking at how we can improve. We look forward to welcoming you to our team.
