Public Health England exists to protect and improve the nation’s health and wellbeing, and reduce health inequalities. It does this through world-class science, knowledge and intelligence, advocacy, partnerships and the delivery of specialist public health services. PHE is an executive agency of the Department of Health and Social Care with a distinct delivery system characterised by operational autonomy to advise and support government, local authorities and the NHS in a professionally independent manner.
We are currently looking to recruit a Regional Director (Medical Consultant) with suitable experience and proven commitment to public health, to provide senior leadership for PHE based in the South of England. The post holder will be responsible for the overall quality assurance and co-ordination of PHE’s functions in population health, improvement, and health protection in their
region to help deliver improved outcomes.
The postholder will also provide professional support and
workforce development for Directors of Public Health and
specialists in their Region and as a senior professional leader in PHE, provide leadership for specific programmes on behalf of the organisation.
Each Regional Director will operate as part of a wider collective system leadership model, working with counterparts in NHS England, local government, Health Education England and other key strategic partners and will deputise for the Director for Health Protection and Medical Director when necessary.
