Inpatient Triage and Community Assessment and Brief Treatment

We are a financially stable progressive mental health and community services Trust with very strong clinical leadership at all levels of the organisation.

The Trust has a focus on improving the experience of patients, carers and our staff. For the last four years we have been developing a special quality improvement programme that provides our clinical staff, patients and carers with skills to transform our services. We believe that our staff are the organisation’s greatest asset and are the best agents for change.

In 2015 the Trust became responsible for mental health services in Luton and Bedfordshire. In 2016 it was graded as Outstanding by the CQC, as Provider of the Year by the Health Service Journal, as well as being rated the best place to work in Mental Health.

Newham hosts a WHO Collaborating Centre (the only one specifically for Mental Health Service Development in the world) and the successful applicant will have opportunities for academic links with the Centre and its large research group in social psychiatry. You will also be enrolled on the Trusts highly regarded Improvement Science in Action training and will be encouraged to contribute to our unique Quality Improvement programme.

Newham’s Consultant-led Inpatient Mental Health Triage Ward opened in 2013 and has played a pivotal role in the Newham directorate’s successful management of inpatient bed occupancy over the past four years. The ward is predicated on prompt and robust consultant-led multidisciplinary assessment and treatment planning.

All admitted patients access a senior review within 24 hours of admission in order that appropriate treatment is commenced early and in the most appropriate environment. The clinical team works closely with local drug and alcohol services and all elements of the local crisis care pathway. You’ll join an innovative, skilled and energetic team.

For informal discussion and queries please contact Dr Dominic Dougall, Clinical Director by either email: dominic.dougall@nhs.net or by telephone: 020 7540 6767.
