Consultant in Clinical Oncology
Consultant in Clinical Oncology. (Specialising in Breast and Endocrine Malignancy)
This 10PA post is available at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is specialising in Breast and Endocrine Malignancy.
The oncology department in Oxford moved into a new £108M cancer centre in 2009 with six Varian linacs, four with CBCT. 4DCT, MRI and PET CT planning is routinely used. The department is one of only seven selected to deliver SABR for all NHSE CtE indications, along with SRS for brain metastases. Lung SABR has been delivered since 2012 and IMRT is routine for most radically treated patients in the department. Rapid Arc is installed on three linacs as well as ExacTrac for the stereotactic programme. Chemotherapy is prescribed using a pan cancer network e-prescribing system (Aria).
The department works closely with the University Department of Oncology including the CRUK/MRC Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology, providing excellent opportunities for collaborative radiotherapy research. In 2016, the department was designated an NCRI Established Centre of Excellence in Academic Radiation Oncology (currently only three in the UK). The department is taking forward plans to develop satellite radiotherapy units in Swindon (building work commenced due to open in 2019) and Milton Keynes (business case in development).
Candidates are highly recommended to visit the department and hospital and are invited to contact: Dr Claire Hobbs, Clinical Director of the Oncology and Haematology Directorate, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, (Tel: 01865 235207), Dr Bernadette Lavery, Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Lead for Breast, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, (Tel: 01865 235268) and Dr Andrew Weaver, Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Lead for Endocrine (Tel: 01865 235209).
