Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care

with a special interest in General Anaesthesia, General/Obstetrics Anaesthesia and Consultant Anaesthetist wiith interest in Critical Care Medicine.

We are seeking to recruit to a number of full-time Consultant Anaesthetists posts to be based at The Rotherham Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The posts are primarily an opportunity for those with a Special Interest in either General/Obstetrics or Critical Care Medicine, but there is also the flexibility within the department to develop other individual specialist areas in line with the Trusts 5 year strategy.

The post-holders will work alongside the existing team of 25 Consultants, 11 other Specialty Doctors as well as 14 doctors in training from Health Education England (HEE).

The Department serves a modern and recently expanded theatre and Day Surgery complex with adjacent ITU and HDU facilities. The Department has an excellent reputation and enthusiasm for Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching. 

Surgical Specialties in the Trust include: General Surgery (including Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery), Orthopaedics and Trauma, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Maxillofacial, Breast Surgery, Ophthalmology. The Trust has an excellent and evolving Day Surgery unit and an expanding Regional Anaesthesia Programme.

The Critical Care Unit consists of 5 Funded ITU beds and 8 funded HDU beds. There are currently 8 Consultants with a special interest in Critical Care Medicine.

There is close working with the other units in the North Trent Critical Care Network (NTCCN) and the unit has been contributing to the national audit for the last 15 years.

The post will be integral to maintaining the quality and extent of the service provided by the Anaesthetic Department which has an excellent record of both Quality Improvement and Research within the department.

Any Consultant who is unable to work full-time may be eligible for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on an individual basis with the Chief Executive, Medical Director and Clinical Lead.

The job plan may be modified in discussion with the Clinical Lead and Consultant colleagues.Other posts may become available before the date of interview.

Rotherham Hospital is a single site 351-bed hospital serving a population of 300,000 people. It maintains a wide range of well-integrated specialties and provides services to adjacent districts in ophthalmology and OMFS.

The Trust has Associate Teaching Hospital status within the University of Sheffield Medical School.
