Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry

Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity for a dynamic and innovative specialist in psychiatry (general, liaison, child & adolescent) at consultant level or equivalent, to work in a growing Mental Health department. The applicant must have teaching and management experience. Research experience in mental health and experience in working in a low- and middle-income country are desirable.
The department runs the undergraduate MB BS courses in psychiatry and the postgraduate MMed (Psychiatry) course. Teaching and clinical care are at the psychiatric outpatient unit in Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre and in-patient services at Zomba Mental Hospital, some 70 Km from Blantyre.
The post holder is expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in both clinical and non-clinical settings, to provide and develop clinical services and to contribute to research in the department.
The department is supported by the Scotland Malawi Mental Health Education Project (www.smmhep.org.uk) and has strong links with leading regional research consortia which provide many research opportunities in the fast expanding field of Global Mental Health. Blantyre is a pleasant city with access to a broad range of recreational activities and good international schools. It is within easy reach of wonderful outdoor opportunities provided by Mount Mulanje, Lake Malawi and a number of National Parks.
