SHOT, the UK’s independent professional Haemovigilance organisation, is looking for a Consultant Haematologist with an interest in Transfusion Medicine to provide medical leadership and to represent the organisation nationally and internationally. The SHOT team (based at the Manchester Blood Centre) includes an Operations Manager, Research Analyst, Laboratory and Clinical Incidents Specialists and general office staff. The office receives transfusion related adverse incident reports from across the UK. The Medical
Director is responsible for the overall management of the scheme, and for ensuring collation and analysis of this data which form the basis of an annual report and symposium. The postholder is supported in this role by a UK wide network of experts who add academic, clinical and laboratory expertise, and is accountable to a multi-disciplinary Steering Group which provides strategic direction. The post holder will also liaise with MHRA, UK Blood Services and other stakeholders, and with similar schemes internationally.

The candidate would be ideally located in Manchester however this post could be located anywhere within the UK, but with a requirement for the postholder to spend at least 3PA per week (on average) in the Manchester SHOT office.
