The Women’s Directorate

Replacement post

The Women’s Directorate sits within the Division of Children and Women. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is jointly based at the RSCH site in Brighton and the PRH site in Hayward’s Heath and it is within these two centres that the majority of in-patient and outpatient activity occurs. Elective in-patient and day-case gynaecological surgery occurs predominantly at the Princess Royal, whilst gynaecological oncology and most emergency gynaecology are managed at the Royal Sussex site. Outpatient clinics occur in both hospitals. Additional gynaecological outpatient and operating activity is undertaken at Lewes Victoria Hospital in Lewes.

The Gynaecological Oncology Centre at BSUH receives in excess of 300 new cancer referrals a year and provides tertiary cancer services to Eastbourne, Hastings and Worthing Cancer Units. Gynaecological cancer surgery occurs at the RSCH site which is also the major site for radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at BSUH has an excellent working relationship with departments in neighbouring trusts and is already functioning as a tertiary referral centre for the South Coast. With the expansion of consultant numbers it is envisaged that the trust will be able to further develop its tertiary services in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and enhance its position as the major teaching hospital in the region

The Post

This is a full time substantive position (10 PAs) for a Consultant in Gynae-Oncology who has completed sub-specialist training. It is a replacement post and the successful applicant will join the two other Gynae Oncologists in the department providing tertiary services for the surrounding Trusts. This post is based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital but the successful applicant may be expected to work across both sites of the Trust. The post holder will be expected to integrate into the wider department contributing to the directorate strategy and governance processes.

As a teaching hospital the Women’s Directorate is also committed to contributing to medical education, the post holder is expected to provide and support teaching across the Directorate.

Please be aware you only have 12 months from your CCT to join the specialist registrar otherwise you will have to go through the CESR Route.
