Applications are invited for Consultant Radiologists with a Specialist Interest in Neuro-Radiology.

The neuro-radiology service at University Hospitals Leicester is provided by a team consisting of six consultants working as a team to cover cross site emergency, urgent and in-patient scanning across three hospital sites. There is at all times a duty consultant at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI), based alongside the Emergency Radiologist.

This Duty Neuro-radiology consultant is also the pivotal focus for the delivery of training and assessment in diagnostic neuro-radiology. A year one and a year two/three Specialist Registrar (ST Doctors) are attached to the Duty Neuroradiologist.

Year four and five ST Doctors within the training rotation help cover the Emergency Radiology service and some elect for sub speciality attachments to neuroradiology. There is an active stroke unit at the LRI and the Duty Neuroradiologist also covers the daily TIA Clinic (up to 7 MRI per day), as well as the CT thrombolysis service.

The Trust has one of the largest Emergency Departments (ED) in the country.  All radiologists will be expected to deliver general radiology sessions and support acute imaging including on-call in addition to their specialist area(s).

Outside duty sessions colleagues within neuro-radiology cover the elective work. The post holder will take a lead in supporting and developing the neuro-oncology service at the LRI. Neuro -oncology services at the LRI are delivered in conjunction with neurosurgery at the Queen's Medical Centre. There are also strong working relationships with inter alia neurology, stroke medicine, casualty and eye casualty, psychiatry and old age psychiatry, spinal surgery, endocrinology and infectious diseases.

There is a one in seven on-call rota. Colleagues cover diagnostic neuroradiology for a week at a time, attending for 6 hours on the Saturday and Sunday to cover the TIA clinic, in-patient lists, review the overnight provisional scan reports.

The Trust encourages audit and clinical research. There will be opportunities to join existing audit and research programmes, as well as initiate one's own.  They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.

Those interested are strongly recommended to contact the service and arrange a visit.” Vac Ref: 358-981929-CON. Closing Date: 9th May 2018. Medical Lead for Imagingmosheir.elabassy@uhl-tr.nhs.uk alternatively to apply, please click the apply button.
