PHE is bringing together its national scientific laboratories and headquarters to create one of the world’s leading centres for public health science in Harlow, Essex, in the heart of the London and Cambridge life sciences corridor. This post will move to PHE Harlow between 2021 and 2024 as part of this major development. For more information please search ‘PHE Harlow collection’.

The post involves:
a) Leadership of the newly formed Clinical Services Unit within the National Infection Services Laboratories in Colindale. The service covers high throughput serology and molecular assays for a wide range of public health pathogens including HIV, hepatitis, measles, mumps, rubella viruses, parvovirus B19 and syphilis b) Clinical support dealing with outbreaks, incidents, events and queries c) Support to the Deputy Directors of Topic specific NIS departments, with strategic planning, research and development as appropriate d) Support to PHE programmes – related to development and improvement of surveillance, investigation, prevention and control of public health infections.

You will be expected to have relevant qualifications (including CCT or equivalent); and FRCPath and experience in providing diagnostic microbiology services (essential) in Medical Microbiology/ Virology with clinical management of communicable disease (essential) and its application to public health. All medical applicants must be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or eligible for registration within six months of interview.

You will be appointed to the point of the Consultant salary scale appropriate to their years of seniority.
