South Warwickshire NHS foundation Trust is seeking a committed, dynamic and enthusiastic Urology Consultant to join our friendly and cohesive team.
The Urology unit at Warwick Hospital is leading in surgical treatments for BPH, including Urolift and green light laser prostatectomy. The department was one of the first to introduce the Urolift procedure and has performed most of them in the region.We are planning to continue to pioneer innovative prostatic procedures in the future with a business case being prepared to start Resum Wave therapy.
There are many development opportunities here at Warwick, which will be dependent on the candidate who applies, such as a transperienal prostate biopsy service, a joint service with the Colorectal department for provision of sacral neuromodulation for treatment of incontinence, a videourodynamic service and uro-gynaecology, and further development of the andrology and erectile dysfunction service.
The successful applicant will be expected to be flexible and take on equal share in response to the identified needs of the service and to demonstrate an interest in undergraduate education and will be paired with a consultant partner tutoring 3-4 medical students from Warwick Medical School.
The Urology Consultant will be supported by three experienced Urology Clinical Nurse Specialists, who provide a 2ww Haematuria service and carry out the majority of flexible cystoscopies in the unit and prostate biopsies in patients not suitable for radical treatment. They are also responsible for LUTS assessments; Lithotripsy and stone disease follow up clinics, andrology and erectile dysfunction treatment and run a dedicated Urology Unit.
Our Urology ward is covered by three junior doctors and the service itself is supported by two interventional Radiologists and a local multidisciplinary meeting with a visiting Oncologist.
The post holder will be expected to provide emergency cover and weekend working. There will be a fixed commitment of one afternoon session per week and 1:4 weekend ward rounds. Outside of normal working hours and weekend ward rounds there will be a commitment of providing telephone availability.
