Leicester Children’s Hospital

You are invited for Consultant in Paediatric Oncology. This is replacement post which will enhance the current establishment of NHS and academic staff of the Leicester Children’s Hospital.

The Leicester paediatric oncology service forms part of the East Midlands Children’s and Young Person’s Integrated Cancer Service (CYPICS). CYPICS is a partnership between the Leicester and Nottingham Children’s Hospitals with 4 oncologists (including this post) and one paediatric and TYA haematologist based in Leicester and 4 oncologists and three haematologists based in Nottingham.

The Leicester Children’s Hospital is predominantly based on the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) site (cardiology service currently still at Glenfield site). It provides secondary and tertiary services to the Leicestershire and Rutland communities. It also works in partnership with surrounding NHS Trusts to provide care to patients from further afield. The Leicester Children’s Hospital Project will relocate the cardiac service to the LRI site and aims to bring about a dramatic improvement in all the inpatient and outpatient facilities over the next three years. The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals in Leicester. It is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for consultants.

You must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training. You will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team. As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.
